Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and Volbase, operated by Peter Mei (“Volbase,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) and govern your use of our website and related services (the “Service”). Please read them carefully.

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. What Volbase Provides

Volbase helps students discover volunteer opportunities, internships, and programs, and helps organizations present, manage, or link to those opportunities. Some listings are collected from public sources, and some are submitted directly by organizations or users. Volbase is a directory and workspace; we are not the provider of the underlying opportunities and are not a party to any arrangement between a student and an organization.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority in your state, you may use the Service only with the involvement of a parent or guardian who agrees to these Terms. By using the Service, you represent that you meet these requirements and that the information you provide is accurate.

3. Accounts and Security

You are responsible for the information you provide and for activity under your account. Keep your login credentials confidential and notify us promptly of any unauthorized use. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that we reasonably believe create risk or legal exposure.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Submit false, misleading, or unlawful information, or impersonate any person or organization;
  • Misuse the Service, interfere with its operation, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to it or related systems;
  • Scrape, harvest, or copy the Service in a way that harms its availability or violates these Terms;
  • Use the Service to send spam, harass others, or post abusive, infringing, or harmful content; or
  • Use the Service in violation of any applicable law or the rights of others.

Organizations are responsible for the accuracy of their listings and for following youth-safety, eligibility, privacy, and volunteer-management obligations that apply to their programs.

5. Listings and Ownership

Organization names, logos, listing descriptions, and linked program materials remain the property of their respective owners. Volbase may summarize, organize, or link to public information to make volunteer discovery easier. If you represent an organization and want a listing corrected, updated, or removed, please use the contact page.

6. Your Content

You retain ownership of the content you submit (for example, profile details, applications, messages, and essays). By submitting content, you grant Volbase a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, display, and use that content solely to operate and improve the Service. You are responsible for the content you provide and must have the rights necessary to submit it. We may remove content, restrict access, or correct listings when something appears inaccurate, unsafe, abusive, infringing, or outside the purpose of the Service.

7. Paid Plans and Billing

Certain features may require a paid subscription. Payments are processed by Stripe; by purchasing, you also agree to Stripe’s terms. Unless stated otherwise:

  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price until you cancel;
  • You can cancel at any time, effective at the end of the current billing period, through your account settings;
  • Fees are stated at checkout and are charged in advance; and
  • Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable for partial periods.

We will provide notice of material price changes before they take effect. You are responsible for any taxes associated with your purchase.

8. External Opportunities and Third-Party Services

Many opportunities link to third-party websites or application flows. Those sites are controlled by their own operators and may have separate terms, privacy practices, deadlines, eligibility rules, and availability. Volbase does not guarantee that a listing will remain available or that an external organization will accept an application. Your dealings with third parties are solely between you and them.

9. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, software, and the Volbase name and logo, is owned by Volbase and protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for its intended purpose. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the Service except as permitted by these Terms or applicable law.

10. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that listings are accurate, current, or available. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so some of these may not apply to you.

11. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, VOLBASE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS OR DATA, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR USD $100. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of these may not apply to you.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Volbaseand its operator from any claims, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your use of the Service, your content, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.

13. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the Service. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (such as ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification) will survive.

14. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the State of Michigan, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that the state and federal courts located in Michigan will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute that is not otherwise resolved, except that either party may seek relief in small claims court where eligible. Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you may have under the Michigan Consumer Protection Act or other applicable consumer-protection law.

15. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice as appropriate. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised Terms.

16. Contact

For support, listing corrections, takedown requests, or questions about these Terms, please contact Volbase.
